Top Dawg Cheer is a local cheer team in Alice that just won big at a major competition earlier this month. The competition took place in Florida and is known as the “D2 Summit” which is organized by Varsity Spirit and held at Walt Disney World Resort.

The incredible performances and placements by the team are well-deserved, especially considering the fact that members of the Top Dawg cheer team were present at the NCA Nationals competition in Dallas earlier this year, which was the site of mass panic after attendees reported hearing sounds they believed to be gunshots. While this event was troubling for the young ladies who attended, they persevered after the traumatizing incident and did not give up in the face of adversity.

“Since February, our team has carried more than just gear and goals they’ve carried the weight of uncertainty, fear, and the unthinkable. In the wake of a potential shooting threat that shook our cheer community to its core, they made the choice not to give up, but to stand together.

With courage, determination, and unity, they pushed forward practicing, and showing up for one another every step of the way. This past weekend, that journey reached a powerful milestone as they competed at their end-of-season event in Florida.

It wasn’t just about scores or standings. It was about strength. It was about healing. It was about proving that nothing could break their spirit.

Purple reign ended 1st out of 35 teams in the wild card round and 7th out of 23 teams in the final round! Overall they competed against 84 teams in the junior level 2 small A division!” — Top Dawg Cheer Coach Lauren Hernandez
