Three-county pursuit ends with arrest of convicted felon

ORANGE GROVE, Texas — Police apprehended Larry Garcia on multiple charges after fleeing from a stop in Orange Grove that led law enforcement on a chase that spanned three counties.

The incident began when Officer AJ Lopez conducted a routine traffic stop on a gray Dodge Durango for failing to display a front license plate. The traffic stop soon escalated after Officer Lopez instructed Mr. Garcia to exit the vehicle after discovering what he says was a “marijuana odor.”

Mr. Garcia attempted to flee on foot when Officer Lopez caught up with him and attempted to apprehend the suspect. It was at this point that Mr. Garcia got up and fled again, leading Officer Lopez to unsuccessfully deploy his taser. Police say Mr. Garcia then made it back to his vehicle and fled northbound on HWY 359 through Orange Grove and Mathis.

The chase ended in Live Oak County soon after Live Oak County law enforcement successfully deployed spikes against Mr. Garcia’s vehicle on IH-37 just outside of George West. The suspect’s vehicle came to its final stop on HWY 59 where Mr. Garcia was apprehended and transported to Jim Wells County jail on multiple criminal charges.

After his apprehension it was discovered that Mr. Larry Garcia was in possession of multiple narcotics and several unlicensed firearms during the night’s interactions with police.

All of the information presented here is alleged by law enforcement officials and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
