Memorial Stadium served Alice and the surrounding communities for over seven decades before being shuttered on Tuesday for safety reasons.
What comes next:
- Demolition is slated to begin on December 16 and is expected to be completed before construction starts in February 2025
- The school district is hoping to have construction completed by May of 2026
Originally built in 1947, Memorial Stadium leaves behind a legacy of over 77 years in service. Its closure marks the end of an era for many residents of Alice. For decades, Alice High School students competed, performed, and graduated at Memorial Stadium. The stadium was central to many memories that the community has created over the years.
Although the stadium had succumb to age and the elements, community members and district officials remain hopeful about the construction of the new stadium and the new ways it is expected to serve the Alice community.
As for future events that are usually held at the stadium, Alice High School graduation is expected to take place at Texas A&M University – Kingsville. The Gazette will keep the community informed about future stadium updates as they are announced.
