ALICE, Texas — The Texas Rangers are officially investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Alice last night. The incident left one local man dead and a community with many questions.
According to a press release from the Alice police department, they say officers arrived at Esperanza Street after receiving several 911 calls from neighbors.
When police arrived, they found an adult male at the residence on Esperanza street and attempted to speak with him, that’s when officers claim the male suspect opened his curtains and pointed a rifle at them.
Alice police say the responding officers ordered the individual to drop his weapon at which point he was shot by police in what they are calling “self-defense”. Additional details about this interaction were not immediately available.
The male gunshot victim was then transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice where he later died from his injuries. Police say the now-dead gunman possessed a .30-30 rifle, which is typically used to hunt medium-sized game like deer.
This incident is now under investigation by the Texas Rangers, who typically handle all investigations surrounding an officer-involved shooting.
