Drive Safe and Sober This New Year’s Eve

Alcohol-related fatalities rise 28% on New Year’s Eve, making it one of the deadliest days of the year. TXDOT recently launched a new anti-drunk driving campaign to combat the growing crisis.

According to their Drive Sober initiative, “In 2023, there were 23,851 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes in Texas, resulting in 1,114 fatalities and 2,327 serious injuries.” These accidents shatter lives, families, and communities, and they are completely avoidable.

In addition to the risk of serious injury or death, a DWI can result in a fine up to $17,000, the loss of your driver license, and it can also affect employment opportunities. It’s simply not worth the trouble. The Texas Department of Public Safety is aware of the growing threat drunk driving poses and they routinely cooperate with local law enforcement to catch potential violators.

If you’ve had too much to drink, you can call a family member or friend to ask for a ride. They would much rather get that call, than receive one from law enforcement about your involvement in a DWI-related accident.
