Coastal Bend College Waives Tuition and Fees for Dual Credit Students

Coastal Bend College trustees voted in favor of a proposal on Tuesday, to scrap tuition and fees for dual credit students enrolled through a partnered school district.

The new policy will go into effect starting in the Spring of 2025. Currently, Coastal Bend College says they are partnered with 35 local school districts.

Dual credit courses are offered to high school students as a way to earn college course credit while still in school. These courses often take the place of regular high school classes, but are designed to challenge students and grow their college readiness.

These courses are often paid for by the local school district and sometimes the student themselves. Now, students, their families, and school districts will be able to save money on a quality college education.

Speaking about the news, Justin Hoggard, President of Coastal Bend college said that, “CBC is committed to providing access to education and creating meaningful pathways for students, especially in our more rural communities.”

This program is slated to benefit tens of thousands of local students, many that come from rural background. Coastal Bend College says this tuition-free program is part of their “commitment to supporting students across South Texas.”

“We value our ISD partnerships and look forward to continuing to help students on their academic journeys. This endeavor amplifies our ability to do so.”

Coastal Bend College has also announced a new initiative “to further support dual credit students.” This new initiative is “designed to keep students on their pathway toward academic success.”

Students and districts will be able to take advantage of this new policy starting in the Spring semester. Students and their families who have any questions should contact their local school district for more information.
