Blood Moon to Shine Over Alice Early Friday Morning

The total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon will be visible in Alice and the surrounding areas tonight, beginning around 2 am local time.

Geometry of a Lunar Eclipse (Artist’s Illustration).

A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth blocks the sun’s light, preventing it from reaching the surface of the moon. During a total lunar eclipse the moon turns a red color due to the sun’s light bending as it passes through Earth’s atmosphere. This phenomenon removes blue hues from the sun’s ray’s, leaving behind a crimson color.

Partly cloudy conditions are expected, so a clear view may not be entirely visible for all residents.
