ALICE, Texas — Howard Denard Harris, a 43 year-old resident of Alice was arrested last night and allegedly charged with homicide. The incident occurred around 1 am on Escobar Street after police say Mr. Harris called 9-1-1 to report that he had shot his mother.

Officers from Alice Police Department found the body of 80 year-old Aralia Davis on the couch with a gunshot wound to the head. Mr. Harris was found with a 9 mm handgun and then promptly arrested. Officers said that Mr. Harris told them that “demons” made him kill his mother.

This crime scene was very similar to another murder Mr. Harris was allegedly involved in just a few years back. He is currently awaiting trial for the 2021 murder of his wife, Angelica Harris. He was originally arrested by the Alice Police Department after his wife was found with a gunshot wound to the head, but was later released on a $500,000 bond.

This latest homicide has raised questions in the community about the criminal justice system. Many residents took to social media to question why an accused murderer was allowed to post bail, while others have asked why it has taken so long for a trial to be set.

This is a developing story, please check back later for updates.
