The Alice ISD School Board voted on Monday to approve the final design development phase for the construction of the new Memorial Stadium, funded by the 2024 Alice ISD Bond.

The Bond was narrowly approved by Alice voters back in May of 2024, with the number of votes in favor reaching 1128 (51.46%) and 1064 (48.54%) votes against. The Bond raised a total of $38 million to fund the demolition and construction of the new stadium.

A motion to approve this agenda item was brought forward by Board Member Lee Ramon, followed by a second motion from Board Member Adrian Peña. The vote was then passed unanimously by the School Board.

Alice ISD Superintendent Dr. Trevino spoke before the vote and said she “appreciates going from the old to the new and closing that chapter, but yet at the same time the tradition of excellence continues.”

The original Memorial Stadium had been closed for the final time last week and demolition began on Monday, December 10. Some items from the original Memorial Stadium, such as the visitor side press box, were auctioned off. While others, like the score board were preserved so they can be integrated into the new stadium.

Alice residents will have to wait until May of 2026 to visit the new stadium. That’s when Alice ISD expects the construction to complete. This means that the 2026 football season will be the first to take place at the new stadium.
