ALICE, Texas — The Alice Independent School District is losing yet another administrator, this time Chief Financial Officer Troy Villareal, according to district sources familiar with the matter. Pending a last-minute reversal, this would be the fourth CFO that Alice ISD has lost in less than two years.

Community members and former staff are raising questions about the current state of the school district’s finances and administration. The high turnover rate for this position is fairly new—it began when Alice ISD Superintendent Dr. Trevino was hired in May of 2023. Longtime Alice ISD CFO David Flores tendered his resignation soon after her hiring and since then no individual has held the position for longer than one year.

According to district records, prior to Dr. Trevino’s arrival at Alice ISD, the district only had three CFOs over a 20-year period, calling into question the unusually high turnover for such an essential position.

This news comes after non-certified teachers and other staff members have not had their contracts renewed, raising further questions about Alice ISD’s capability to function as a District of Innovation. As of the writing of this article Alice ISD has 32 job titles they are hiring for, with some of these positions needing to be filled by multiple individuals.
