The Alice High School Boys and Girls Swim Teams competed in the District 29-5A swim meet this past Friday at the Corpus Christi Natatorium.

These meets are comprised of individual races and team relays, with participants coming from fellow schools in the district. The swimmers compete in various races and relays and are then ranked based on their placements.

Judges thoroughly evaluate each swimmer’s technique for stroke violations, relay infractions, lane, turn, finish violations, and equipment violations, which will lead to a disqualification for the swimmer or relay team. It’s safe to say that the stakes are high in every race at these swim meets.

The Gazette spoke with Alice High School Swim Coach Savannah Albiar about the team’s performance at the district meet.

How do you feel about the teams’ performances this past weekend?

Coach Albiar: “Performance was amazing from both boys and girls team! Both teams know what it takes to compete in our 5A class especially against a powerhouse like Flourbluff. They continue to amaze me when it comes down to solid hard work and that’s what it’s going to take come regionals! We had a lot of good times and we felt like we held our own but now it’s time to dig even deeper stay focused and set new goals!”

What piece of advice do you have for your swimmers who will be competing at Regionals?

Coach Albiar: “My advice to my swimmers right now moving on to regionals is just to keep their foot on the gas pedal, keep grinding, stay focused and take in these special moments!”

Regionals will take place around two weeks from now and members of the community are encouraged to attend and cheer on the Alice Coyotes.
